TRIALS: Best Ranch Ever!

Have you ever had those moments where you are in the middle of an experience, and the world around you seems to just disappear? That is exactly what happened to me when I tried this High Omega Vegan Ranch salad dressing by Follow Your Heart (fitting name). As a holiday gift, I was given this vegan ranch dressing from a gift box set by PETA, and what happened after that blew my mind! I know I tried and reviewed a previous vegan ranch dressing earlier in 2012 (which can be seen here), but this one...

When I opened up the bottle, the aroma alone was enough to drive my senses wild! I prepared myself a spring mix salad and eagerly poured some ranch on it. After taking my first bite, I was filled with a creamy rush of flavor that immediately put a smile on my face! I have been accustomed to just sticking with vinegar or carrot ginger dressings, so to have this as an option really made my day! The best part about this dressing is that it is really light and can also be used as a dip, or even on top of tempeh!

Overall Rating:

I give this a 5 out of 5! Professor's Pick! This vegan ranch is perfect for picnics, parties, and even for the 4th of July! I look forward to seeing what else I can pour this vegan ranch on top of. Maybe even on top of seitan!

REQUESTS: Battle of the Broths!

Soup would be impossible without the magic of vegetable broth. Even when you are sick, vegetable broth finds its way into our life. But what about making it by ourselves? Is it less expensive to make it, or is the convenience of premade broth hard to pass up? Let's find out!

With premade, you have a HUGE selection of broths to choose from, whether it be low sodium, organic, or even vegan chicken flavored bouillon cubes! This gives you total control of flavor without any of the effort!

-Instant And Easy!
-Sodium + Low Sodium versions
-Organic Options
-Bouillon Cubed Vegan Meat Stocks (Edward & Sons)

-Quantity (Only 4 Cups a Carton)
-Spoils Quickly After Opening

Best Bet:
Vegan bouillon cubes by Edward & Sons. Long lasting and produces a large quantity for a low price!

Making a homemade broth may be more time consuming, but it allows you to have total control of the quantity and what vegetables you want in your broth! You also control the flavoring and how much salt content you need.

Best Bet:
Freeze leftover parts of cut broccoli or other vegetables and have a collection ready for when you make your next broth!

REQUESTS: Stuffy And Sore - Sick Relief Tips!

ACHOO!!! Ever have those days where you feel a sickness coming on? One morning, you wake up and you cannot breathe from your nose. You finally get the energy to get to the bathroom to only realize bright lights are affecting your headache. What to do next?! Here are some easy to remember tips to get you through your next sick day!

Evil, evil headaches. Probably the ailment I suffer most from. Do not grab the Advil and try one of these easy methods to erase the pain!

Eat 10-15 almonds
15 almonds = 1 aspirin.

Ginger Tea
For tension headaches, add an inch of crushed ginger to boiling water. As effective as aspirin.

Drink Water
If you have not had enough water, it may be from dehydration.

Take a Warm Shower / Nap
This always does the trick for me. It relaxes and calms tense muscles.

Sore Throat:
These can be really annoying, especially if it affects your voice. Here are some tips to get your voice back!

Drink Tea With Lemon Juice
This soothes and clears your throat to promote healing.

Gargle With Warm Water And Salt
Every hour. A classic remedy for sore throats. Highly Recommended.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Dilute 1 tbsp in water. Drink as much as you need.

Suck On Garlic
Put 2 small garlic halves in each cheek and treat like a cough drop. Kills strep bacteria!

Runny Nose:
After recently dealing with a runny nose, I used a few of these methods to clear up my clogged mess!

Neti Pot
This is the first thing I do when I cannot breathe. It has saved me so many sleepless nights.

Eat / Drink Hot Fluids
Clears the nasal passages. Cinnamon Tea really helps.

Sniff An Onion
Clears nasal passages. When on the go, add a few drops of Eucalyptus Oil to a tissue and sniff when needed.

Hot Shower
A nice, hot shower is an overall relief. Clears the nose and feels good too!

Work Out
Surprisingly, getting a good workout can efficiently clear up your nose. As long as you have the energy!

Feeling too weak to get out of bed can be a real problem. If you can reach them, these remedies will surely help!

Cashews / Walnuts
Cashews for muscle fatigue. Walnuts for emotional.

Go To Sleep
It's okay to take a break. Sometimes this is all that is needed to feel recharged!

Eat Oatmeal
Gives a quick energy boost that lasts throughout the day!

Eat Some Spinach
Popeye was on to something. Directly battles fatigue on all levels! Highly recommended!

Drink More Water!
Being dehydrated can really slow down your day. Drink throughout the day!

Nothing is more frustrating than tossing and turning all night. These easy tricks can help you sleep in no time!

Eat Walnuts
A handful of walnuts before bed will make you sleepy!

Eat Pumpkin Seeds
Same as above!

Take A Hot Bath
90-120 minutes before bed. Prepares the body for a deep sleep!


Especially needed for those who are sitting all day. Physical activity promotes a healthy sleep! Do not do this right before bed. 

Do Something Else
If you simply cannot sleep, do something else until you feel tired. Avoid television and computer screens. 

Being inspired by my own sickness this week, I compiled all of these easy and simple remedies to help us get through the season! The best way to prevent getting sick is to make sure you get a good nights sleep, keep a healthy diet, and remember to relax!

SANTA IS TURNING VEGAN! Holiday Treats Part 2

Yep, Santa is still vegan! With part 2 of our Holiday Treats special, we wanted to bring out even MORE limited edition goodies that have made their way into our supermarkets! While looking for apple cider vinegar, I stumbled upon this interesting bag of Stacy's Simply Gingerbread Pita Chips! I didn't even think twice and excitedly picked up a bag! Let's see how it tasted!

Subtle but satisfying, these pita chips are an amazing and unique addition to your collection of holiday treats! I absolutely love that they turned a pita chip into a holiday treat! Unexpected and very clever!

While walking around New York City, I am always receiving free bags of Stacy's Sea Salt Pita Chips from Sabra spokespersons on the street, so I have always been a fan of Stacy's and their products because of how kind they have been.

Aside from eating straight from the bag, these chips can also be broken up and placed along the top of cakes, or even be decorated!

TRIALS: Organic Ville Organic Chili Sauce

So tempting! Having already tried and tested the ranch dressing by Organic Ville (see post), I just HAD to try out their organic Chili Sauce! With so many different brands out there, I was very excited to see how this brand tasted and what I could use it for! Let's try it out!

Conveniently inexpensive, I picked this up at the nearest Whole Foods. Aside from their Chili Sauce, they also had a huge selection of other varieties, so believe me, I was standing there for a while! The Organic Ville Sesame Teriyaki kept staring at me. I'll go back for it another day.

Overall Rating:

I first tried this stand-alone to get a feel of the taste. I have to say, it was satisfyingly sweet and flavorful in just a small dollop! The Chili Sauce would be PERFECT on top of veggie burgers, as a dip for french fries, or better yet, as a base for an entirely new sauce! Here is the recipe to what I made last night.

Chili Sauce Remix

First, sauté some onions and garlic in extra virgin olive oil. After, pour in as much as you need of the following ingredients:

Organic Ville Chili Sauce / 75%
Yellow Mustard / 25%

It was super easy and really brought the vegetable dish I had made to life! On a busy schedule, this really made life a lot easier, while at the same time, bringing in an entirely new flavor to add to recipes!

SANTA IS TURNING VEGAN! Holiday Treats Part 1

Santa is turning vegan! As the holidays get closer and closer, we anticipate spending plenty of quality time with family and friends! What better way to enjoy the holidays together than with a delicious, vegan box of gingerbread men!

MI-DEL released a limited edition box of gingerbread men that is absolutely amazing! It has a strong taste and is satisfyingly chewy. The aftertaste is addictive as it will leave you needing more! I ended up eating the whole box by accident. I really tried to stop!

Ultimately, they are an excellent foundation to decorating and incorporating them into other holiday treats! From adding icing to placing them onto cakes, they are perfect for just about anyone! If you were to make a gingerbread house, these pre-shaped little guys are a great compliment to the design!

I am still on the hunt to try other brands out there, but these are a great alternative for a holiday in a box!

TRIALS: Go Max Go Gets A 'Thumbs Up' EXCLUSIVE!

Have a sweet tooth? If the answer is yes, then brace yourself for a brand new vegan candy bar to hit stores November 2012!

We had the honor to taste test a Pre-Production Sample of Go Max Go Foods 'Thumbs Up', a vegan interpretation on the classic 'Butterfinger'. Not only is it called 'Thumbs Up', but the flavor deserves a thumbs up as well for how much sweetness is infused into this compact bar. The texture is very unique from other bars on the market, which is an interesting surprise when trying it for the first time. Thumbs Up has a pleasant peanut crunch in every bite that is complimented by the soft chocolate exterior that melts in your mouth.

As far as the size, we wish it were bigger since it's difficult to eat just one! Considering it is a Pre-Production Sample, we look forward to see the actual size of the candy bar. What does 'Thumbs Up' actually look like? Unwrap a Thumbs Up and see for yourself!

REQUESTS: Walnuts For Brains! + Food Challenge!

Have you ever noticed that walnut halves look like brains? Surprisingly, eating walnuts is excellent for overall brain health and keeping the mind sharp! Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, it is the perfect type of fat the brain needs to stay healthy!

The brain is made up of 'Structural Fats' and needs Omega-3 to function at its fullest potential. Unfortunately, 2/3 of Americans are deficient in Omega-3, which can bring on an endless list of frustrating ailments.

With such a high Omega-3 fat content, walnuts can improve memory, promote better sleep, lessen depression and improve heart health! Walnuts are the perfect snack to have before a stressful interview or test as it also helps to lower blood pressure!

The unfortunate side about walnuts is that buying them tends to be expensive, especially in New York. But as a vegan, it is extremely important to be getting Omega-3 in ours diets to keep our brain in tip-top shape. Great food is the best health insurance around!
